Hoopbus magic- a day with Dolores Huerta Elementary School
Let’s play! We surprised the kids at Dolores Huerta Elementary School during there after school program with a little Hoopbus magic. Pulling up to a roaring cheer, the kids lined up and every kid got to practice shooting off the bus. When the ball went swooshing through the net, a wave of excitement filled every student as toes lifted from the ground and a line of high fives was out and ready for action. The feeling of ‘you can’ soars through the crowd.
We were joined by George Blakeney Jr. who has played professional ball overseas and started the “You Can Foundation” that helps build a solid foundation for youth globally to create and pursue a limitless future. George gave a speech about what winning means to him and shared how he counts the small wins, reminding kids that even doing your homework is a win!
Joining George in speeches were Maranne Johnson a basketball influencer who moved to LA to chase her dreams of playing ball and Janelle Porter a Nike influencer, with a sleek arm for shooting and passion for pushing the women game. Sharing who inspires them, they asked kids to share who’s their favorite basketball player. Lebrons and Kobes rolled through the rise of hands.
The fun continues as legendary street ball athlete Randy Gill aka “White Chocolate” shows off his sweet moves and fancy ball tricks for the kids. Papers went flying into air as kids wanted autographs.
To wrap it all up the kids got group tours of inside of the bus to admire our college ceiling and even threw some smiles and peace signs out of the bus windows for pictures.
Today was a great day!
Peace, love and Basketball
